RULES
Article 1 – Registration
Registrations are limited to 8 to 16 boys’ teams.
Registration is done by submitting an application and must be approved by the organization.
A team is considered registered once it has completed the form on our website, made the payment, and received confirmation of registration by email from the organization.

Article 2 – Teams
Teams are made up of a maximum of 10 players and one coach.
During the tournament, each team will play a minimum of three games in groups of 4.
The coach of each team is expected to be the representative and the sole point of contact with the organization.
PS: It is strictly forbidden for a player to participate in the tournament with two different teams, under penalty of disqualification of the teams concerned.
Article 3 – Equipment
Each team must bring two sets of jerseys.
Article 4 – Format
Matches will be played at the Maurice Fouques and Victor Vinde gyms in Caen, on 3.05m-high hoops using size 5 balls.
The tournament starts on Saturday from 9 AM.
There will be no lunch break; games will run continuously. Exact schedules will be shared with each team the day before.
Tournament format:
The top two teams from each group advance to the Playoffs quarterfinals.
The bottom two teams go to the Playdowns quarterfinals.
From the quarterfinals onward, all matches are single elimination.
No classification matches for other teams.
Late afternoon: contests followed by the finals to close the day.
Please respect the schedule, it’s very important for the smooth running of the event for everyone — players, organizers, and spectators.

Article 5 – FIBA
The rules applied at the QO tournament follow the current FIBA regulations, except for the specific points mentioned below.
Article 6 – Referees
Referees are officials recruited by the organization. However, players or coaches from the participating teams will also be asked to assist with some refereeing duties.
⚠️ It is possible to bring a referee from your own club.
Article 7 – Table Officials
The Table Officials are appointed by the organization. However, players or coaches from the participating teams will also be asked to help with certain tasks at the scorer’s table (such as the game clock, score sheet, etc.).
⚠️ Please make sure each team designates volunteers to assist at the table on the day of the event.
Article 8 – Playing Time
Matches are played in 2 halves of 10 minutes each, with running clock except during the last minute when the clock stops. No clock stoppage on free throws except during the final minute.
In case of a tie, overtime will be played with the “first team to score 3 points” rule.
Article 9 – Timeouts
Each team is allowed one timeout of 1 minute per game.
Article 10 – Substitutions
Substitutions are made on the fly, exclusively on offense (behind the ball), and the player exiting must leave first, under penalty of a warning, then a technical foul if the order is not respected.
Players must also make physical contact (a check).

Article 11 – Fouls
Each player is allowed four personal fouls.
Small exception: a team cannot play with fewer than 5 players. If the last player fouled out and cannot be replaced, each foul will result in two free throws and possession awarded to the opposing team.
Article 12 – Disqualification
Any unsportsmanlike behavior, verbal or physical violence, teammates’ passivity in case of unsportsmanlike conduct by one of them, or any attempts to contest the result of a match will lead to the disqualification of the team or the involved players by the Staff.
Article 13 – Defense
Zone defense as well as defensive three-second violations are prohibited. Their enforcement is at the referee’s discretion, who may issue a warning in case of an infraction. In case of a repeat offense, a technical foul may be given.
Article 14 – Tiebreak
In case of a tie, the following criteria will be applied in order:
Best defensive performance in a single game
Head-to-head goal difference
Overall goal difference
Points scored
Points conceded
Best offensive performance in a single game
Article 15 – Three-Point Contest
The three-point contest usually takes place on Sunday afternoon.
The rules are simple: each player has 60 seconds to shoot 25 balls, arranged on 5 racks of 5 balls each. Each ball is worth 1 point, except the last ball on each rack, which is worth 2 points.
There is also a bonus shot from mid-court after the buzzer, worth 5 points.
The top two scorers advance to the finals. In case of a tie, a sudden death shootout will determine the winner.

Article 17 – Insurance
Players are under the responsibility of their own civil liability and their clubs. The organizers disclaim all responsibility in case of accident, damage, or theft that any person may suffer during their participation in or attendance at the tournament.
Article 18 – Refund
You will be eligible for a full refund of the tournament fees if you cancel by email before June 15, 2025, with no extensions. Beyond this date, no refunds will be made.
Article 19 – Accommodation
The organizing committee does not cover team accommodations.
Article 20 – Catering
Fast food with dishes, halal sandwiches, fries, paninis, cold drinks, etc. will be available during the tournament.
Article 21 – Transport
We do not cover transportation costs. All teams must get to the different venues by their own means.
The transportation of delegations will be their own responsibility.
