WHO ARE WE ?
ACESS 229 is an organization that brings together social, sports, and cultural actions. Since 2018, it has organized the Street Game 229, an event that has been a huge success with the youth of Benin.
The association also organizes the « Un Noël pour tous » (A Christmas for All) event, which allows Beninese children to celebrate Christmas in good conditions, just like everyone else. Additionally, it played a vital role in raising awareness among the Beninese population about the Covid-19 pandemic. Alongside this, ACESS 229 regularly conducts activities such as distributing sports and medical equipment to support local communities.
The Quartier Ouest association, founded in Normandy, is a major player in organizing sports events, particularly in basketball. With more than 15 years of experience, it has established itself as a reference both in France and internationally. It is particularly known for its ability to organize events that bring together professional and amateur players from around the world: France, Europe, Africa, the USA, and Asia.
The proceeds from this event will be used to fund our upcoming editions and strengthen our support for Beninese sports organizations, providing them with material, financial, and logistical assistance.
BASKETBALL IN BENIN 🇧🇯
It is simply the second most popular team sport in Benin, behind football. Therefore, one should not underestimate the significant role that basketball plays in both the city and the country.
Mouphtaou Yarou is undoubtedly the most well-known Beninese basketball player, thanks to his impact in the Jeep-Elite and his NCAA career at Villanova.
In addition, there are international players from Benin who have represented other national teams:
Eric Micoud (France), star consultant for the NBA Extra show.
Edwige Lawson-Wade and Isabelle Yacoubou (France), Vice-Olympic Champions in 2012.
Valériane Ayayi (France), Silver medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The Ayayi brothers (France), Joel, briefly in the NBA and now playing for Bourg-en-Bresse, and Gérald, currently playing for Cholet.
Ian Mahinmi (France), who played in the NBA.
Rui Hachimura (Japan), a player for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA.
Ismaël Bako (Belgium), a player for the Paris Basketball
This year, the Street Game 229 promises to be an exceptional event, with the participation of numerous teams from all corners of Benin. We plan to invite teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, IvoryCoast, and, as the cherry on top, a team from France. All of these wonderful people will gather to thrill the spectators and offer a high-level basketball show. This tournament will highlight the diversity of talent and cultures, further strengthening the event’s impact on the international scene.
The atmosphere promises to be dynamic and electric, with three-point shootouts, dunk contests, and a mini-tournament reserved for players under 16 (U16) that will thrill the crowd. Music and dance fans will also be delighted with live Hip-hop and Afro music performances scheduled throughout the event.
Several renowned guests from the worlds of basketball and entertainment will add prestige to this major sporting celebration with their presence. To top it all off, numerous surprises are planned, promising a memorable experience for both participants and spectators.
On Friday, August 8, at the end of the day, a gala match and a partners’ game will take place.
On Saturday, August 9, it will be a non-stop basketball day, with all the group stage matches.
Finally, on the morning of Sunday, August 9, a mini-tournament will showcase the best young Beninese basketball players under 16 (U16), giving them the opportunity to compete against other rising talents in a competitive yet friendly atmosphere. This event will serve as a true platform for the next generation of basketball, allowing these young players to demonstrate their potential and prepare for future challenges. It’s a great chance for them to shine, learn, and take a step closer to a higher level of the game.
Later in the morning, another highly anticipated moment will kick off with the start of the knockout stage games.
At the end of the day, the dunk and three-point shooting contests will take place, followed by the main event: the two finals of the QO x SG229 tournament, and finally, the award ceremony.
