RULES

Article 1 – Registration

Registrations are limited to 16 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams.

Registration is subject to application and must be approved by the organizers.

A team is considered registered once it has completed the form on our website, made the payment, and received confirmation from the organizers.

Article 2 – Teams

Teams must consist of a maximum of 10 players (minimum of 7), and preferably include one coach.

During the tournament, each team will play a minimum of three games, within groups of 4 teams.

The captain or coach of each team is expected to act as the official representative and sole point of contact with the organizers.

PS: Players are not allowed to play for multiple teams!

Article 3 – Equipement

Each team must bring one pair of shorts per player, preferably in the same color. The organization will provide a game T-shirt for Saturday’s matches.

For the Sunday morning games, each player will receive a complete tournament kit as a gift, including a jersey, shorts, and socks.

Article 4 – Proceedings

Friday

From 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the tournament will officially open with the 3×3 Partners and Businesses Tournament.

Saturday

Starting at 9:00 AM, the tournament will get underway with the women’s games, followed later in the morning by the men’s games.

There will be no lunch break: games will run continuously throughout the day. For this reason, each team will receive its game schedule the day before.

In the men’s tournament, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals. The remaining teams will be eliminated.

For the women’s tournament, all teams will automatically qualify for the quarter-finals on Sunday.

Sunday

Starting at 9:00 AM, the Nairobi Kids United U15 mini-tournament will tip off, followed by the women’s quarter-finals, then the men’s quarter-finals.

In the early afternoon, the action will continue on Court 1 with the various contests and the semi-finals. At 5:00 PM, one of the most highly anticipated moments of the weekend will take place: the famous Dunk Contest! 🔥

At the same time, the U15 tournament will continue on Court 2.

Finally, the day will conclude in spectacular fashion with the two tournament finals, bringing an exciting weekend of basketball, competition, and emotion to a close. 🏀🔥🏆

⚠️ Please be on time — it’s crucial for smooth coordination between players, organizers, and the audience.

Article 5 – FIBA

The applicable rules are those established by FIBA, except for the specific points listed below.

 Article 6 – The referees

The referees are officials recruited by the organization and will officiate in teams of two or three.

 Article 7 – The table officials (OTM)

The table officials (OTM) are also appointed by the organization for all matches throughout the weekend.

Article 8 – Playing time

Games are played in two 10-minute running time halves, with the clock stopping only in the final minute of the game. Free throws do not stop the clock, except during the last minute.

During the final minute of the game, the clock will stop as in standard timing.

In case of a tie, overtime will be played using the « first to 5 points » rule.

Article 9 – Time out

One one-minute timeout per half during the games.

Article 10 – Substitutions

Substitutions are made on the fly, exclusively at the scorer’s table, behind the ball.
The exiting player must leave the court first, otherwise a warning will be issued, followed by a technical foul for repeated non-compliance.

Players must also make physical contact (a check) during the substitution.

 Article 11 – Fouls

Each player is allowed four personal fouls.

A small exception: a team cannot play with fewer than 5 players. If the last player substituted out cannot be replaced, then for each foul committed, two free throws and possession will be awarded.

Article 12 – Disqualification

Tout comportement anti sportif, les violences (verbales ou physiques), la passivité des co-équipiers en cas de comportement anti sportif de l’un d’eux, les interventions litigieuses sur le résultat d’une rencontre entraineront la disqualification de l’équipe ou des joueurs par le Staff.

 Article 13 – Defense

Zone defense and defensive three-second violations are prohibited and subject to the referee’s discretion.
The penalty is a warning, followed, in the event of a repeat offense, by one free throw plus possession.

 Article 14 – Tiebreakers

In case of a tie, the following criteria will be applied in order: head-to-head goal difference, overall goal difference, points scored, points conceded, best offensive performance in a single game, and finally the best defensive performance in a single game.

 Article 15 – Nairobi Kids U15

Organization

• The tournament usually starts on Sunday morning.
• 6 women’s teams and 6 men’s teams in the U15 category can register with the organization.
• Teams are composed of 8 players maximum (6 players minimum), born between 2011 and 2014.
• Each team must bring a pair of shorts, preferably in the same color. The organization will provide a game T-shirt for the matches.
• Participation is free.

Format

• Two pools of 3 teams, with 2 matches per team. The top 2 teams from each pool qualify for the semi-finals.
• The finals will take place on Obama court.

Rules

• Match duration: 15 minutes.
• In case of a tie at the end of regular time, 2-point sudden death.
• One 1-minute timeout per match.
• Changes are made on the fly, with physical contact (check).
• 4 individual fouls per player, and free throws are awarded on the 8th collective foul.
• Zone defense and defensive 3 seconds are not allowed (warning + technical foul).
• In case of a tie, the following criteria will be used: head-to-head goal average, overall goal average, points scored, points conceded, best offensive performance, and best defensive performance.
• Only one free throw will be awarded, and it will be worth 1, 2, or 3 points depending on the game situation.

Small exception: a team cannot play with less than 5 players. If the last player is ejected and cannot be replaced, two free throws and possession will be awarded to the opposing team on each foul.

Rewards

• The winner takes home a complete basketball set (jersey, shorts, socks).
• Each participant receives a tournament t-shirt.

⛔️ Those who cheat on their age will have all their matches forfeited.

⚠️ A player is strictly forbidden from participating in the tournament with two different teams, under penalty of disqualification of the teams concerned.

 Article 16 – 1 on 1 Tournament U18

Organization

• The tournament usually takes place on Sunday afternoon.
• 16 female and 16 male players in the U18 category can register with the organization.
• Participation is free.

Format

• Round of 16. Single-elimination format.
• The loser of each match is eliminated.
• The girls’ final will take place during halftime of the Women’s Grand Final, while the boys’ final will be played during halftime of the Men’s Grand Final.

Rules

• Match duration: 3 minutes or 8 points.
• Each player has 8 seconds per possession to shoot.
• « On conserve » rule: the player who scores keeps possession.
• No rebound – each possession restarts with a check ball beyond the 3-point line.
• In case of a tie, sudden death at the free throw line: you shoot, you score, you miss, you’re out. The first shooter is decided by mutual agreement or coin toss.

Rewards

• The winner takes home a complete basketball set (jersey, shorts, socks).
• Each participant receives a tournament t-shirt.

 Article 17 – 3pts Contest

The 3-point contest usually takes place on Sunday afternoon.

The rules are simple: each player has 60 seconds to shoot 25 balls arranged on 5 racks of 5 balls each. Each ball is worth 1 point, except the last ball on each rack, which is worth 2 points.

The top two scorers advance to the finals. In case of a tie, a sudden-death shootout determines the winner.

Rewards
The winners take home a trophy and a ball.

 Article 18 – Slam Dunk Contest

The dunk contest always takes place before the men’s final in the late afternoon.
Each participant performs 2 dunks in the first round, with a maximum of 1 minute allowed to complete each dunk.

The two highest combined scores advance to the finals, where they perform 2 dunks each.
Winners are decided by the applause meter.

In case of any dispute, the organizers have the final say!

Rewards
The winners take home a trophy and a tournament uniform.

 Article 19 – Insurance

The organizers accept no responsibility for any accidents, damage, or theft that may affect any individual during their participation in or attendance at the tournament.

 Article 20 – Refund Policy

For any registered team unable to attend, it is mandatory to notify the organization by email at least 15 days before the tournament. After this deadline, no refund will be issued.

 Article 21 – Accommodation

The organizing committee does not cover accommodation for the teams.

 Article 22 – Catering

Fast food options including hot meals, sandwiches, fries, cold and hot drinks, etc. will be available throughout the tournament.

 Article 23 – Transport

We do not cover transportation costs. All teams must arrange their own travel to the different venues.

Each delegation is responsible for its own transportation.
