The Quartier Ouest association is proud to announce the organization of its 1st edition of the Quartier Ouest International Tournament on Kenyan soil, which will take place from January 7 to 9, 2027, Nairobi, Kenya.

This ambitious event aims to offer a unique opportunity for female and male basketball players to showcase their skills in a high-level tournament. The objective is to create a platform to promote access to basketball, while strengthening ties between communities around this unifying sport.

PRESENTATION

Our organization is a national and international reference in the field of basketball event organization.

The Quartier Ouest Tournament is one of the three largest PRO/AM basketball tournaments in Europe.

Launched in Normandy in 2007, the tournament has since established itself as a major reference in the basketball events scene, both in France and internationally. Held every year, it brings together amateur and professional players, both men and women, from France and abroad.

Tournament Format:
The tournament will take place as a 5-on-5 competition, with both female and male brackets featuring 24 teams. This event is open to clubs, associations, or simply groups of friends.

Atmosphere and Entertainment:
To make this event even more spectacular and engaging, we have planned a rich program of entertainment and activities. Throughout the weekend, participants and spectators will enjoy:

• High-level games.
• Mini-tournament U15 boys and girls.
• 1 on 1 tournament U18 boys and girls.
• 3-point shooting contests and dunk competitions.
• 3×3 Tournament for Partners and Businesses
• Musical performances with Afro and Hip-hop DJs to maintain a dynamic and festive atmosphere.
• Announcers to highlight the energy and excitement of the crowd.

The grand winners will share a prize of 1000,000 KSh💰

WHO ARE WE ?

The Quartier Ouest association, founded in Normandy, is a major player in organizing sports events, particularly in basketball. With more than 15 years of experience, it has established itself as a reference both in France and internationally. It is particularly known for its ability to organize events that bring together professional and amateur players from around the world: France, Europe, Africa, the USA, and Asia.

The proceeds from this event will be used to fund our upcoming editions and strengthen our support for Beninese sports organizations, providing them with material, financial, and logistical assistance.

BASKETBALL IN KENYA 🇰🇪

Basketball in Kenya is experiencing rapid growth, driven by strong urban interest in Nairobi, major investments from organizations such as NBA Africa and the AFD, and the professionalization of leading clubs on the continental stage.

Basketball is gaining an increasingly prominent position in Kenya’s sporting landscape, thanks to several key factors.

Popularity and Infrastructure

• Nairobi as the main hub: The capital city is at the heart of the country’s basketball development, with a growing network of school, university and community facilities.
• Safe court development projects: Initiatives led by international organizations such as Giants of Africa and the NBA are contributing to the construction of new courts, including in Kayole and Umoja, providing young people with safe spaces to play and develop their skills.
• Educational programs: The Basketball Experience program, supported by the AFD and the NBA, reaches more than 100 schools and promotes social inclusion through sport.

Competitive Development and Professionalism

• The rise of local clubs: Nairobi City Thunder made history by becoming the first Kenyan team to reach the highest level of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
• Domestic competitions: Organizations such as the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) championship, along with the emergence of new competitive leagues, are helping to strengthen the local basketball scene.

The most prominent Kenyan basketball player of recent years is Madina Okot, who made history by becoming the first Kenyan athlete ever selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft. She was selected 13th overall by the Atlanta Dream, following a dominant college career with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Key Figures on the International Stage

• Josephine Owino: A pioneer of Kenyan women’s basketball, she was selected in the third round of the 2009 WNBA Draft after a successful college career at Union University.
• Tylor Ongwae: Captain and key figure of the Nairobi City Thunder. He spent several years playing in Europe, notably in Denmark with the Bakken Bears, where he won three consecutive league championships and two Defensive Player of the Year awards.
• Makur Maker: Born in Nairobi to South Sudanese parents, this 2.11 m center played college basketball in the United States (NCAA) with the Howard Bison before turning professional, including a stint in the G League.
• Mercy Wanyama: Sister of renowned footballers Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga, she became the first Kenyan woman to play in Spain’s professional basketball league (Liga Femenina 2).

EDITION 2027

This year, the tournament promises to be an exceptional event, with numerous teams coming from all across Kenya. We also aim to welcome African teams from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Nigeria, Angola, and Tanzania — and, as the icing on the cake, teams from France and the United States.

All these teams will come together to thrill spectators and deliver a truly high-level basketball spectacle. The tournament will showcase the diversity of talent and cultures, further strengthening the event’s impact on the international basketball scene.

The atmosphere promises to be dynamic and electric, featuring three-point shooting contests, 1-on-1 competitions, and dunk contests, as well as a mini-tournament for U15 players that will have the crowd buzzing. Music and dance fans will also be treated to Hip-Hop and Afro music performances throughout the event.

Several renowned guests from the worlds of basketball and entertainment will join us and add to this great celebration of sport. And to top it all off, numerous surprises are planned, promising a memorable experience for both participants and spectators.

Friday

At the end of the day, following the setup and installation, a small 3×3 tournament will be organized.

Saturday

Saturday will be a full day of basketball, featuring the group-stage games.

Sunday

On Sunday morning, a mini-tournament will bring together some of Kenya’s best U15 basketball players, giving them the opportunity to compete against other young talents in an atmosphere that is both competitive and supportive.

This event will serve as a true showcase for the next generation of Kenyan basketball, allowing these young players to demonstrate their potential and prepare for the challenges ahead. It will be a fantastic opportunity for them to shine, learn, and take the next step toward a higher level of competition.

Later in the morning, another highly anticipated moment will take center stage with the beginning of the knockout stages.

At the end of the day, several exciting events and games will take place, including the 1-on-1 tournament, dunk and three-point contests, youth finals, and a gala game.

Then comes the Main Event 🔥: the two finals of the Quartier Ouest 254 Tournament, followed by the awards ceremony. 🏆🏀
